Work Experience 15/25/35 (from 3-30 credits)

Work Experience is an opportunity for students to explore career possibilities and build employability skills while earning high school credit at a part time paid or volunteer position.

Students must acquire a minimum of 75 hours to earn 3 credits. After that accomplishment, they receive 1 credit for every 25 hours earned after the 75 hours worked at their work site. Students must be engaged in supervised work and their hours are verified by their employer on weekly time sheets. Other course requirements include a reflection project. Work Place Safety (HCS3000), a 1 credit course, must be completed by all students prior to any hours being counted for credit in Work Experience.

Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

The Registered Apprenticeship Program provides students with on-the-job training toward an identified trade.  Student who utilize this route can:

• Gain valuable hours toward their apprenticeship (bluebook)
• Network with industry expertise
• Explore future career and life opportunities

Prerequisite:   HCS 3000

Unique opportunities are available to all CBE high school students and are continually added throughout the year.

Calgary Police Cadets (ages 12-18)

The Calgary Police Cadet Corps provides youth the unique opportunity to participate in a program geared towards developing leadership skills and camaraderie, while getting an inside look at the world of policing.

Fire Cadet Program

The Fire Cadet Program gives high school students the opportunity to learn about what it takes to be a firefighter, through teaching life-skills like leadership, community involvement, teamwork, pride and respect. Through theoretical and practical training, Fire Cadets learn basic firefighting skills, and, how to apply those skills and values into daily activities.

Junior Forest Ranger Program

Since 1965, Junior Forest Rangers (JFR) is proud to offer Albertan youth the opportunity to get started in a career related to natural resource management and forestry. JFR crews are camp or community-based crews. Camp locations are located throughout the province and vary from year to year. Camp crew members stay with their crew 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for seven weeks (except for long weekend in August). The summer experience is challenging, unique and exciting.
