School Council – Our first meeting of the school year is Wednesday, September 9 at 6:30pm. All parents and guardians of current students are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please enter the school through the main yellow pillar doors.
Meet the Teacher - We are excited to welcome you all into our building for our Meet the Teacher Evening! On Thursday, September 10th we will open the main doors at 5:45 PM. The evening will start in the main gym with an information session with school administration and will conclude with a "mini timetable". Please bring your student so they can show you around to their classes, and if they can't be with you, please make sure that you have a copy of their schedule so you know which classrooms to go to. The evening will conclude at 8:00 PM.
Student Services Schedule Changes - If your student requires a timetable adjustment, we encourage them to visit Student Services as soon as possible. Students should add their name to the waitlist and remain available to be called, as wait times may be longer during this busy period.
Student timetables will be finalized by Friday, September 11 at 12pm. After this time, schedule changes for Semester 1 will no longer be permitted. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our Student Services team works to support all students to finalize schedules for the semester.
Post Secondary Visits and Information Sessions - Over the next few months, Student Services will be hosting several post-secondary schools' visits for our students, as an information booth over flex and lunch, or as a lunchtime presentation. We encourage both Grade 11 and 12 students to visit, attend the information sessions, and learn about what is offered. Dates for these visits will be posted on the Student Services D2L Wellness shell, along with our announcements.

Trojan Clubs - Now is the time to get involved! September 15th, 16th and 17th will be our Trojan Club Rush. At lunch, all the incredible clubs and extra curriculars will be set up in the Fish Bowl and Main Foyer! Come stop by and find something that interests you. Some initial information is outside Mr. Pendergast's room now - room 1118.
Robotics - Are you interested in robotics? Bowness high school runs a competitive robotics club that meets after school Monday/Wednesday until 5:30 pm. We design, build and program robotics to compete in various robotics competitions. We are welcoming new members starting Wednesday, September 9th in room 2203. Hope to see you there!
BHS Choir - Do you like to sing? Do you like having fun? Do you like SNACKS?? Maybe you want to audition for the BHS Musical Theatre production and would love to perfect your singing before then. The BHS Choir is the perfect place to do all of that! The BHS Choir a great group that gets together every Tuesday and Thursday to sing and learn more about the voice and music…..and yes, we REALLY DO have snacks! Sign up on the bulletin board just outside of the music room and come on out to our first session on Tuesday, September 8. You won’t regret it!

Board Game Donations - In an effort to help students disengage from their phones, even if it’s for a few minutes, I want to provide students who finish work early with board games to use during their spare time in class. I'm building a game library in my classroom, and am looking for donations. If you have a board game you no longer using and would like to get rid of, I will gladly take it!!! Examples would be puzzles 100-300 pieces, Dominos, Yahtzee, Uno, Operation – anything that can be played in under 30 minutes. If you would like to contribute and are able to do so, please send the game with your student to Ms. Martinez in Room 1033.
School Volunteers - to ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
Process - Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
New This Year: Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer. This change allows school staff to verify that volunteers have reviewed and acknowledged their privacy obligations under Alberta's Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
In accordance with CBE Policies around student safety, the doors to the school are now locked. Access to the building is by buzzer during regular office hours. Students required to have access for activities outside office hours must be under the direct supervision of a Bowness High School staff member. Arrangements for access will be made directly with the staff member. The doorbell for the school is located at the yellow pillar entrance, and anyone wishing to enter will need to identify themselves to gain access.
Attendance Process – please email bowness@cbe.ab.ca if your student is going to be late, absent, or needs to leave early. Please include the student’s name and details of the absence including start and end date or time. Email makes it easier to track, reduce errors and be more efficient, and allows you to provide attendance in advance if known. Please note we are not able to make changes in attendance after one month. If you believe your student has been marked absent incorrectly, please have them speak to their teacher first, who will contact the office to update their record if necessary.

Student Parking – Just a quick reminder there is no student parking in the school parking lot. All spaces are allocated to staff and guests. Students are also reminded to be kind and aware of our neighbours and not to block driveways, park in spots designated to local businesses, or the Bowness Sports Plex. We have already been contacted by local businesses who will be calling to have vehicles ticketed and towed.
