Happy New School Year, Bowness Families!

It has been a hectic few days here at Bowness getting our students settled into classes, helping them find their way around our hallways, and getting our athletics up and running.  I have had wonderful conversations with students this week and I could not be happier to have them back.  I always say that a school without students is just a big, empty, sad building.

I would like to thank my staff - our Caretaking Team, Support Staff, and Teachers.  Thank you for your dedication to our students and your commitment to giving them all they need to be successful this year.

Students, while we have multiple layers of support available to you, ultimately, your success is in your own hands.  Get engaged in our building - both in your classes and in extracurricular opportunities.  We are looking forward to a fantastic school year!

Families, I know many feel uneasy as we begin this year.  Trust me, we feel it as well.  Know that we are all in for your children.  Fingers crossed this all gets sorted as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Trojans, wishing you all a wonderful 2025-26!

Mrs. Jana Macdonald, M.Ed.

Proud Principal of Bowness High School

Meet The Teacher

Personal Mobile Devices

As of August 29, 2024, Calgary Board of Education students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time, unless approved by a teacher or administrator for learning activities, health/medical needs, or to support specialized learning needs.

Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis for

  • IPP: Students with Individual Program Plans that identify PMD use as an accommodation.
  • Health: Students with a completed Student Health Plan documenting medical need. Please note that students and parents who have already filled out and signed a Health Plan from the previous school year will not need to complete a new one.
  • EAL: Students who are new to Canada and require translation support while acquiring English.

Requesting a PMD as an Accommodation

If a student is requesting the use of a personal mobile device as an accommodation, a Health Plan form must be completed. Forms can be picked up at the school office. Once signed, please return the form to the office, where it will be reviewed. Please note that filing the form with the office does not automatically grant the accommodation. Administration, along with the family, will review the decision

Thank you for your support as we work together to ensure focused and engaged learning environments for all students.

Club Lush

September 10 and 11 (Wednesday and Thursday) over the lunch break representatives will be in the front foyer to talk to students about the opportunities and activities available this year!! Joining a club is a great way to meet new people with a shared interest, or try something new. Please encourage your students to get involved.

New Office Hours

The main office will be open from 8:15 am - 4:15 pm Monday to Thursday, and 8:15 am to 3 pm on Fridays.

Reporting Attendance

When reporting an absence or late, please contact the school via email - bowness@cbe.ab.ca or leave a message on the attendance line - 403-286-5092  - choose option #1. Please be sure to leave the student's full name and grade and reason for absence.
Students who arrive late need to sign in at the main office upon arrival before heading to class.  Students needing to leave early are also required to sign out in the main office, and we need parent / guardian approvals.

School Fees

CBE school fees should start to become available next week in your MyCBE accounts. Thank you for your patience as fees are assigned centrally.
