Student Fundraising Opportunities - Individual Fundraising has now started! At Bowness High School we have a program that allows students to fundraise, raising money for their own expenses (School fees, athletic fees, school trips, Graduation Banquet tickets, etc.). Students can participate in any fundraisers throughout the year and all money will be put in an account in their name in the Business Office to be spent as needed, or can be saved up to use in future years. If you participated last year and are unsure of how much money you have, please email teschmidt@cbe.ab.ca to find out. If you want to use your money to pay for fees please contact the Business Office to have money applied to your account.

Trojan Club Rush - September 15th, 16th and 17th will be Trojan Club Rush. At lunch, all the incredible clubs and extra curriculars will be set up in the Fish Bowl and Main Foyer! Come stop by and find something that interests you.
Astronomy Club! - We look at space pictures, talk about concepts and ideas, current explorations and share any interesting knowledge we have gained over the years. Come at lunch any Monday starting on Sept 28th to Room 2044. See Mrs Williams or Ms Sutton for more details.
Debate Club - Are you interested in debate? Whether you have some experience or no experience at all, you are welcome to join the club to gain public speaking skills, learn how to articulate arguments, clarify your ideas, make new friends and have fun. We will have weekly meetings in a friendly, no pressure environment, to enjoy learning debate skills, format, and to share opinions & thoughts on ethics. Students may have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers and compete in debate and/or ethics tournaments against students from other schools in person or online in some cases. Meetings/practices: Thursday after school at 3:40 in room 2059.
Yearbook Club - o you want to be part of Bowness history? Do you want to strengthen your resume? Yearbook is a way to be part of the Trojan community. We meet every Thursday at lunch. There are three departments in Yearbook, marketing, photography and editing. You can work in more than one department if you choose. Photographers need to be able to work outside of school hours to shoot sports and events. It's a great way to get involved!
Model UN - Model United Nations is a role play conference and debate where you work with students from across the city to problem solve global issues and work towards potential solutions. It helps improve public speaking and problem-solving skills, and looks great on University and scholarship applications.

Photography Club - Join us Tuesday mornings from 7:30–8:50 AM for a casual photography club where you can explore your creativity, practice taking great photos, and learn the basics of photo editing. No experience or fancy camera required—just bring your creativity and a willingness to have fun!
Esports Club - The Esports Club encourages friendly competition at lunch times during the school year. Come, hang out, play some Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and other games. The schedule changes each week - watch out for 8 player Smash Chaos days and Special Smash days. Every day we run 1v1 matches for players looking for some serious competition. Join us!
Robotics Club - You interested in robots? Like the challenge of solving problems? Join the Bowness Robotics club which meets Monday and Wednesday afterschool in room 2203 (practice ends at 5:30). You can build a robot to compete in games against other teams.
Fall Mainstage Production - Everyone is welcome to audition for our Fall Mainstage production: The Colours Between Us. This play, which is a student collaboration, will be featured as part of our Theatre Grand Reopening. November 2,3,4. All of the Fine and Performing Arts will be showcased in this production, as well as some incredible guest musicians and choreographers who will be working with our students! Auditions will be held next week from 3:40-5:00 pm Monday Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept 14,15,16) in the Dance Studio. Sign up for your time slot outside the theatre main entrance and scan the QR code for audition materials. You need to prepare one monologue from the list provided. You get five credits for taking part in the production as you will be enrolled in Theatre Performance, which meets every Monday/Wednesday and Friday in the pm j-block. See Mrs. Exley for details!
BowPride - BowPride is a student-led, teacher-supervised group that organizes various initiatives that promote a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging throughout school year. CBE Caregiver Series - The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join a live online series on supporting child and youth well-being. The series is hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with local experts from the Calgary community. Attached is a poster with sessions designed to provide families with knowledge, tools, and strategies to help navigate the challenges and opportunities of raising children and teens today. Along with the poster, additional session details are available on our corporate website: Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Series.
School Council – Next meeting of the school year is Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30pm. All parents and guardians of current students are welcome and encouraged to attend. Please enter the school through the main yellow pillar doors. Treats will be provided by our amazing Culinary Arts Program!
Post Secondary Visits and Information Sessions - Over the next few months, Student Services will be hosting several post-secondary schools' visits for our students, as an information booth over flex and lunch, or as a lunchtime presentation. We encourage both Grade 11 and 12 students to visit, attend the information sessions, and learn about what is offered. Dates for these visits will be posted on the Student Services D2L Wellness shell, along with our announcements.

Paid Civic Work Experience Opportunity: Elections Alberta is hiring election officers for the October 19 referendum. You must be at least 16 years of age. No resume or previous election experience is required. Go to the Elections Alberta website and click on the Jobs tab for more information about the application process.
School Volunteers - to ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities.
Process - Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the POPA requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form.
New This Year: Community members who do not have a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school where they wish to volunteer. This change allows school staff to verify that volunteers have reviewed and acknowledged their privacy obligations under Alberta's Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).
In accordance with CBE Policies around student safety, the doors to the school are now locked. Access to the building is by buzzer during regular office hours. Students required to have access for activities outside office hours must be under the direct supervision of a Bowness High School staff member. Arrangements for access will be made directly with the staff member. The doorbell for the school is located at the yellow pillar entrance, and anyone wishing to enter will need to identify themselves to gain access.
Attendance Process – please email bowness@cbe.ab.ca if your student is going to be late, absent, or needs to leave early. Please include the student’s name and details of the absence including start and end date or time. Email makes it easier to track, reduce errors and be more efficient, and allows you to provide attendance in advance if known. Please note we are not able to make changes in attendance after one month. If you believe your student has been marked absent incorrectly, please have them speak to their teacher first, who will contact the office to update their record if necessary.
Student Parking – Just a quick reminder there is no student parking in the school parking lot. All spaces are allocated to staff and guests. Students are also reminded to be kind and aware of our neighbours and not to block driveways, park in spots designated to local businesses, or the Bowness Sports Plex. We have already been contacted by local businesses who will be calling to have vehicles ticketed and towed.
